Giving Sexual Abuse Victims a Voice
It takes an incredible amount of courage for a victim of sexual abuse or sexual misconduct to come forward and make the abuse public. While a perpetrator may go to jail, many people do not realize that the perpetrator is not the only person or entity that can be held accountable – a survivor can also have a civil lawsuit against parties who are responsible for not preventing the abuse, or not protecting the victim from the abuse.
For example, Founding Attorney Ray Dearie obtained an $8,000,000 verdict against the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services for its negligent investigation of the victims’ foster family and negligent placement of the victims with their foster family. Aside from the State and its agencies, the Dearie Law Group has also fought for sexual abuse survivors who were failed by school districts, counties and their agencies, among other entities.
